How to play

A god hides behind the veil. Name them in ten guesses.

Type any god (there are 634 to choose from) and pick one from the list. Each guess lights five instruments that tell you how close you are:

Culture

Greek, Norse, Egyptian and so on. Gold means the right part of the world but the wrong people.

Generation

Where they stand in the order of creation, oldest first: Primordial (the first powers, like Chaos or Ymir), Titan / Elder (the older gods, like Cronus), God or Minor god (nymphs, spirits, lesser powers), Demigod (born of a god, like Heracles) and Mortal (a human of legend, like Odysseus). Monsters and beasts (like Medusa or Pegasus) stand outside the line. Gold is one step away; the arrow says whether today's god is older or younger.

He / She

He, she, they (a pair or a group, like the Muses) or it.

Domains

What they hold power over: the sea, storms, the dead, love, trickery. Each domain you share lights up.

Kin

Your guess's family, friends and foes. A relative you share with today's god lights up, and if your guess is family of today's god, you'll be told.

Cyan is a match, gold is close, dark is no match.

Every wrong guess lifts two plates of the veil. Stuck? After your fifth guess you can read the god's museum label (with the name blacked out); after your eighth, see how the name begins.

Every god you unveil is claimed for your Pantheon: a cabinet of the plates you have won. As it grows you rise through the ranks of those who spoke with the gods: Initiate, Diviner, Augur, Seer, Magus, Oracle and, for every god unveiled, Hierophant.
